Hand Care in the Time of COVID-19: How to Best Keep Them Soft, Hydrated, & Glowing
Hands dried out and irritated from over-washing and too much hand sanitizer? (Whose aren’t?) Here are my top picks to not only smooth but also rejuvenate the delicate skin we have there, with amazing products that moisturize, nourish, and prevent against environmental stressors. I have actually battled this problem all my life, so over the years (decades, really) I have test driven too many different hand creams, serums, and exfoliators to count. These are the ones I have found to have consistently the best results!
Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Body & Hand Wash
My go-to when you want a gentle overall cleanser for both your hands and body. It has a rich, full lather, and will fill your bathroom with the refreshing scent of just ripe pears — which couldn’t be more perfect as the weather gets warmer and we try to recreate those spring outdoor moments in our homes! Plus, it leaves your hands super conditioned and soft, and is perfect for those who don’t want anything too heavy or greasy (or, alternatively, you can use this before applying something richer).
Parfums de Marly Delina Hand Cream
For those who want a perfume and hand cream in one, it doesn’t get much better than this. I started using this one just last week, along with the Delina Eau de Parfum and Delina Hair Mist. I adore nothing more than a sweet, rich scent, and the Delina fragrances all have a vanilla base that is given extra depth with notes of cedarwood, incense, and Turkish rose. Not only will they leave your hands soft and silky but they will smell divine. And at just under $50, this hand cream is the perfect introduction to the storied French fragrance house without the hefty price tag.
L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
The classic hand cream for many; one is sold every two seconds around the world! The Shea Butter makes for a super creamy, silky texture that penetrates quickly to moisturize, nourish and protect your hands from the harsh elements (that certainly include excessive washing). I’ve been using this hand cream since high school (I’m telling you, I have always suffered from dry, cracked hands) and these days I need it more than ever.
La Mer Rejuvenating Hand Serum
I use this one overnight when I want to not only soften and condition but also renew and brighten the skin on my hands! It’s especially great if you’re looking to soften any scars, discolorations, or any kind or aging/crepe-y skin. Another plus — it absorbs instantly so you don’t have to worry about getting any lotion on your clean sheets. If your hands are super dry and raw, you may want to top your serum treatment with a richer hand cream (for a true splurge and treat, I recommend La Mer’s Hand Treatment — it’s so luxe and intensely hydrating), but it will make your hands incredibly radiant all on its own.
Burt’s Bees Ultimate Care Hand Cream
The best product when you’re looking for a hand cream that also gently exfoliates, and at a budget friendly price (just over $10). It has a natural Fruit Acid Complex that gently breaks down some of those dry, rough skin patches that have been exposed to harsh chemicals (again, over washing can easily do this) and other environmental stressors. It’s lasts all day and it’s perfect for those with sensitive skin as it has no added fragrances and is free of parabens.
Yes To Coconut Protecting Hand and Cuticle Cream
Another SUPER budget friendly option, this rich coconut oil and Shea butter cream protects both the skin on your hands AND your cuticles!! With nail salons closed for now, this is another way to help “bring the salon home” and nourish that cuticle skin for healthy nails — and “pro-like” at-home manis.
I know we aren’t heading out of the house that much these days, but the weather is getting much warmer and — while many don’t know this — your hands are one of the most sun-sensitive spots on your body (you know when people say your hands “give away” your age? That’s why). So I always use an SPF hand cream to go outside and the Supergoop! is my favorite because I’m a huge fan of Argan Oil, which deeply moisturizes, and the fruit extract tones down any unevenness or redness that these harsh hand sanitizers often exacerbate.
I hope these are helpful suggestions! Let me know if you have any questions about any of the products or how you’ve been taking extra care of your hands during this time!!

The shea butter cream sounds nice. I moisturize my hands after I wash them every time — and that was even before covid-19.
I want to try the La Mer one!
I love the L’Occitane shea butter hand cream! I also have the Delina fragrance from Parfums de Marly and it’s divine! I’ll have to check out the hand cream 🙂

I love these suggestions! I was just thinking I need to invest in some good and luxe hand cream with all this hand washing.
So much yes to these, my hands get SO dry from constantly washing them throughout the day. I’ve been loving the L’Occitane Hand Scrub… would pair perfectly with the hand cream you mentioned here!
I’ve definitely been looking for anything and everything that will keep my hands soft and smooth – but I’ve been doing that for years. Routine hand-washing is nothing new to me (hah) so I’m always hoping to keep the skin hydrated.
Oh, I definitely needed this! My hands have been SO dry with all the excessive washing/ hand sanitizer use!
I have used the Burt’s Bees before and I have to say that it’s really good. I like most of their products, they’re usually pretty moisturizing.
