Anti-Sequin Outfits to Rock This Party Season

I thought we were supposed to deck the halls with boughs of holly, not sequins. Don’t take me wrong, I have nothing against sequins. But how can we distinguish gold from glass if everything sparkles and blinds our eyes? This holiday season, dare to stand out from the sea of sequins with these statement pieces!

Rock This Instead: A Shocking Hue

That’s right, I’m starting off this list with a pink wrap blouse and corduroy slit pants. Nothing says I am a woman who knows what I want better than a pink power suit during the holidays. This breaks all the rules; but then again, we all know fashion rules are meant to be trampled on by white block heels, don’t we? Don’t be a stickler and try out a new hue this holiday. Pink for Christmas? You bet!

Rock This Instead: Romantic Ruffles and Billowing Silhouettes

I love the silhouette of this dress by London-based Serbian-born designer Roksanda Ilincic. The ruffles, low neckline, and silk fabric exude a feminine and sexy wildcat that brings spice and merriment to any crowd. Fuschia is such a bold color for the holidays, standing on the edge of fierce and playful. That’s a teeter-totter I’d love to get into!

Rock This Instead: Monochrome Leather Number With A Pop of Color

Carolyn Murphy rocked this all-black ensemble on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Okay, there’s a hint of sequins in her off shoulder top, but that’s not really the highlight. The real showstopper is really the dramatic puff of pink, silk detail on the shoulders, which take the look straight into couture heaven. The tight bodice and asymmetrical shimmer in her boots balanced out these otherwise edgy trousers. Definitely not a safe suit, but hey, holiday fashion is not child’s play.

Rock This Instead: Power Outerwear

Channel a classic and elegant look with a cape-style frock. Who says a timeless white piece doesn’t scream festive? This piece makes me feel like a superhero saving the crowd from over the top diamanté! Let’s face it, we have to take a break from all that shining.

Rock This Instead: Surprising Back Details

Be the best-dressed guest in this layered, cherry red Chesterton gown. It’s a classic fit on the front, but the party is at the back, which shows off trailing tiers of pink taffeta. To be honest, this dress makes me feel like running away at midnight as this seriously looks like a piece straight out of a fairy tale. P.S. Use this holiday as an excuse to get away with pink taffeta. Go on, I know you want to.
